With the door closed, the new escutcheon or rosettes should fully cover the holes, leaving at least ¼ inch between their outside edges and the doorstop. To access the inside of the door panel, what you want to do is carefully remove your plastic. Pop off the plastic door lock trim and the cover around the interior door handle with a flat head screwdriver. Now you can dispose of your interior door cover as you wish. Carefully withdraw the cylinder with the key in place and replace it in the new handle.

After getting at all of the bolts for both handles, I removed the handles and moved my work inside out of the rain an the electrocution hazard of drilling in a thunderstorm. But it's loose enough to where the door knob still twists freely on that. Then, to put it back in. What I recommend, to do as little damage as possible to these parts, is to work the screwdriver underneath, then into the door and then pop it. Now, once your door handle's unbolted. Use the screws that come with the new lock to fasten the latch in place on the edge of the door. Glue the plastic cover back onto the door frame but first make sure to spray all the metal moving parts inside the frame with a small amount of lithium grease. You remove those 10mm nuts and go from there. To reinstall the door handle, you want to put that rod back down through the door.
Put the lock cylinder into your new handle. Now you want to take that door handle cable, put it back into its clip. Also check if the door opens and closes smoothly and if the window is functioning properly. Now, I am happy to say that one day in to using this fix and replace everything is running smoothly! You also have to remove the window handle, and that required a bit of scratching of the door and my head seeing as I couldn't figure out where the pin holding it to the mechanism was located. There are multiple tabs that hold the panel in the door. A mounted clamp will make things a lot easier—use it if you have one. If they are not down far enough, they will not hold the handle tight and the assembly will rattle. Or do you want to still be able to use your old key.
Slide the door handle toward the front of the car, then the rear of the handle can be tilted out of the door. These retainers are in the hole in the handle where the rod goes, and they have a small extension which is easy to hook onto the rod so the rod will not come out of the hole in the handle. You can actually twist on the exterior, kind of wiggle it loose, if you need to, but they should pull right apart. There are several other parts that need to be removed to get at all fo the screws, and I am sure all of the locations are different for different makes and models, but unless you're driving a Lambo you should be able to do it yourself. Try out the door handle, test the lock, and check the alarm to be sure you have everything hooked up correctly. There was a place in the side for a flat-head screwdriver to lift it off, and then a screw underneath to detach the outside door handle. Metal clips are on top corner and front edge.
